I am an engineer turned humanities scholar turned visual artist. In my artistic work I combine photography, image processing, creative coding and artificial intelligence, which I started using 2015.

Although I work with digital images, my final works are usually art prints or small installations. I also like to work on gradually evolving images, looking like an art print on a screen, but changing constantly but almost imperceptibly.

Visual arts attracted me as a way to escape rational thinking inherent in language. I am not really interested in most recent developments in AI based tools. Rather, I am breaking AI into parts which I can reassemble into my own kind of tools for visual experimentation. In the early days of AI art from 2015 to 2021, there was no other way. I am still on this way, adopting new technology only when it makes sense artistically.

I mostly use AI that is trained on limited material. You don’t need art to train a model to use in making art. It is enough to extract a reasonable set visual features during training, and then use creative techniques to apply this limited artificial perception to make and transform images.

So my way is to keep building my personal AI so as to remain true to my own visual goals. I start by taking photos which are then transformed and combined in various ways. Need to experiment a lot to really capture the look and feel that is my own.
